When embarking on the natural journey, support is one of the pillars that will help keep you strong, focused and on the right track.  Whether it’s a two girlfriend coffee group or a national organization, having someone who can relate to your challenges and triumphs can make the difference between success and “failure”.  With this in mind, when I moved to Columbus, I searched valiantly for a group of journeyers and was lucky enough to find Nappturally Me!, an 81 member Meetup.com based group located in nearby Westerville, Ohio.

Originally founded by “Nappturologist” and “The Knotty Truth” author M. Michele George, Napturally Me! was started as a way for Columbus women to come together and share tricks of the trade, product information and natural hair education.  With an emphasis on DIY natural hair care, members met once or twice a month to exchange information and encourage each other.  Since its inception, the management reigns have been taken up by Kendra Haskin in 2009, and the group has been ever growing ever since.

Not all the Napturally Me! gatherings are hair related, though.  Past meetups have included a “Nappy Hour” Meet & Greet at Zanzibar and a general Meet & Greet at the Westerville Panera Bread.  Future meetups will include a member potluck and screening/discussion of “Good Hair” this coming Saturday at the Westerville Public Library, and a “Hair Journal How To” workshop on February 27th.

If you are a Columbus, OH resident and are a natural newb/veteran, or are considering going natural, be sure to visit the Napturally Me! page and see what we’re all about.  If you feel inclined, plan to attend one of our future events and possibly become a member.

For naturals in other states, you can find a Meetup.com natural hair group in your city by surfing HERE, and searching for the topic “natural hair” by your zip code.
