Living in Columbus makes it somewhat difficult to do the “natural thang” in a wholly natural way.  Although there is a moderate amount of nappturals on the Capital City scene there aren’t very many salons or product companies that cater to natural hair care here, and so for many, home care and commercial products are the only alternative.  Well Camille McClesky is working to change all that with Yonnea’s Natural Beauty Products.

Combining all natural ingredients and years of natural hair care research, Yonnea’s Natural Beauty offers a variety of products that help to prevent breakage, nourish the hair and promotes growth.  As noted from Camille‘s on photos on the Website’s header, Yonnea’s Natural Beauty has granted her full, long locks with just nine months use!  McClesky’s dedication to providing quality product to help naturals achieve health hair is not just a business, it is a life ambition that she takes very personally.

I am very passionate when it comes to hair and beauty, therefore my journey with Yonnea’s Natural Beauty Products will continue for life.  I hope you’ll enjoy my beauty products, jewelry and hair accessories.

So whether you’re a napptural here in Cbus or nationwide and are looking for certified organic products to help maintain your tresses, Yonnea’s Natural Beauty just may be the answer to your hair care prayers.  So drop by the Website at www.yonnea.com, or Email Camille with your questions at info@yonnea.com.

When embarking on the natural journey, support is one of the pillars that will help keep you strong, focused and on the right track.  Whether it’s a two girlfriend coffee group or a national organization, having someone who can relate to your challenges and triumphs can make the difference between success and “failure”.  With this in mind, when I moved to Columbus, I searched valiantly for a group of journeyers and was lucky enough to find Nappturally Me!, an 81 member Meetup.com based group located in nearby Westerville, Ohio.

Originally founded by “Nappturologist” and “The Knotty Truth” author M. Michele George, Napturally Me! was started as a way for Columbus women to come together and share tricks of the trade, product information and natural hair education.  With an emphasis on DIY natural hair care, members met once or twice a month to exchange information and encourage each other.  Since its inception, the management reigns have been taken up by Kendra Haskin in 2009, and the group has been ever growing ever since.

Not all the Napturally Me! gatherings are hair related, though.  Past meetups have included a “Nappy Hour” Meet & Greet at Zanzibar and a general Meet & Greet at the Westerville Panera Bread.  Future meetups will include a member potluck and screening/discussion of “Good Hair” this coming Saturday at the Westerville Public Library, and a “Hair Journal How To” workshop on February 27th.

If you are a Columbus, OH resident and are a natural newb/veteran, or are considering going natural, be sure to visit the Napturally Me! page and see what we’re all about.  If you feel inclined, plan to attend one of our future events and possibly become a member.

For naturals in other states, you can find a Meetup.com natural hair group in your city by surfing HERE, and searching for the topic “natural hair” by your zip code.

I have been acquainted with the owner of this Blog via Twitter and Facebook for only a couple of months, but the wisdom contained in the pages of My Journey Back 2 Natural is timeless.  The labour of love for LaTonya Mack-Greene,  known in across the Net as NaturallyFlyy, My Journey Back 2 Natural is a personal Blog journey which combines post about LaTonya‘s transition and eventual BC with posts about homemade products and hairstyles.

A companion to her beauty and hair centered Youtube channel, InnovativeThinking, this Blog shares a wealth of natural hair knowledge from LaTonya‘s perspective, and takes it one step further to include her steps to natural living as a whole.  Here you’ll find posts on what it means to be a pescatarian as well as her new transitional efforts dealing with eating healthier.

This Blog comes highly recommended for Napturals starting out from scratch, who desire a realistic and personal approach to the process.  So subscribe to both of LaTonya‘s sites and keep abreast on her latest and greatest, and be sure to leave a comment or two.

I have been in love with this Blog for about a year and a half now because she serves a banquet of Blog dishes dealing with natural hair care, make up tips and reviews and her fashionista perspective.  Sprinkle it all over with a dash of personal life experiences, and you have a smorgasbord of the must read variety.

Created in 2006 by Naptural Bella Patrice Elizabeth Grell Yursik (who has been walking the natural journey since 2002), Afrobella combines Patrice‘s love for writing with her passions for natural hair, beauty and fashion.  Now while you may think by that description you’re sure to find a bunch of “hoity toity” reviews or entries that only B.A.P.S. can relate to, Afrobella has such a homegirl flavour to it, that even the most ardent of tomboys can get with.

With sections like Bella on a Budget, which gives tips on how to get that celeb beauty look for less, and Afrobella Body, which offers ideas on how to eat healthier and shed unwanted weight, this Blog offers something for everyone and should be on the Blogroll of every naptural and fashionista.

So what are you waiting for?  Click on over there today, and be sure to leave a comment.

affrodite

(click the image to visit site)

Today’s spotlight is on a Blog that began out of Affrodite‘s love for hair, and slowly graduated to cover a broader range of topics affecting the African-American community.  In her own words:

Originally, my intentions were to make this all about nappy hair and related topics. I soon realized that makes me yawn because there’s only so much you can say, plus I’m sooooo not the beauty type (don’t wear makeup, sometimes I shave my legs and sometimes I don’t). I will continue to post nappy stuff as I try new products and new-do’s and such, but I’m also going to share topics that strike a nerve for me and call at my soul to speak out, websites and blogs worth checking, black media and entertainment news, charitable causes, current events, history revisited, etc. Those who know me in my day to day life know that I’m passionate about things and have no problems letting people know what I think.

Our reason for spotlighting Affrodite.net is because she is putting on a fantabulous contest featuring a CURLS Essentials Sample Kit, a $22 value containing a variety of CURLS hair products!  This is a great way to get a taste of products designed for the kinky and coily among us, and  each kit is specifically designed according to fit your curl pattern.

For your chance to win, as well as to see life and hair care through Affrodite‘s eyes, surf on over and give her Blog a visit.  Be sure to leave a comment!

coil-review

(click the image to visit site)

I learned about this site from its Founder and Editor, Yardley Messeroux, who contacted me concerning a contributing position.  As any good  writer does, I took a trip over to TCR to get a feel for the publication’s format and content, and was delighted by what I saw.  A very clean and classy format embraces abundant resources by way of interviews, articles and even a section that a helps readers select that best products for their hair.

Updated monthly, The Coil Review is a mixture of  celebrity and commoner features designed to inspire, educate and celebrate the natural beauty of ethnic hair.  With sections like Salon which offers a stylist and style training course directory, as well as the Research Doctor’s Office, which outlines common scalp and hair conditions, TCR provides its subscribers with uncommon information to help keep hair healthy and their kinky spirits encouraged.

I particularly like the photo sections which display natural stars within the entertainment industry, along side our every day sistahs (and brothas) who are proud of their crowning glory.  To me, the diversity of the galleries demonstrates the high fashion and accessibility of natural hair styles, providing a touch of fantasy with a dash of reality.

The mission of TCR mirrors that of my Blog, to provide a central source for the limited natural hair resources available, as well as provide inspiration to others who are going the naptural route. In my opinion, the publication more than fulfills its purpose, so be sure to give The Coil Review your review soon.

I happened upon this classy and classic Blog during my first week out of the hair Blogging gate, and was very impressed by the clean and concise layout. There’s a very feminine vibe at M&C that embraces you through the monitor, enticing you to kick your shoes off and stay awhile.

Beyond the pretty-ful visuals, be prepared for an onslaught of hair news you can use, such as the proper way to flat iron and the proper way to moisturize, as well as a parade of natural pride featuring inspiring model pictures (not just of the AA variety either) and even an exciting “expose” on kinky hair Barbies!

All in all, it’s a naptural-polooza, and I implore you to pay a M&C a visit, become a member, and/or subscribe to updates so you can keep up with their latest and greatest!
